Alliance Of Progressive Groups Host US Senate Candidate
621 Lake Avenue
Lake Worth, FL [Get Map]
The Green Party of Florida is co-hosting a Meet the Candidate night featuring US Senate candidate, former North Miami Mayor Kevin Burns.

The Greens are joining with Democracy for America, Palm Beach County Young Democrats, the Palm Beach Democrats, the Palm Beach County Progressive Democrats of America, the FAU College Democrats and the Wellington High Young Democrats in presenting this event.

“We have always advocated inclusion of all citizens in our Party,” adds Co-Chair of the Green Party of Florida, Jayne King, “so we are very happy to be part of this landmark event.”

About the candidate: Twice elected as Mayor of North Miami, Kevin Burns took on the entrenched political machine in the city and won decisive victories. He reorganized the structure of city government, created a Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) repaired the city’s crumbling facilities and pushed green building codes to ensure environmental responsibility and save the city money. He also developed a new emergency response process after Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma struck North Miami in 2005. Under Kevin’s leadership the City of North Miami opened five new schools in a three-year period – an unprecedented $200 million construction project that ensured the city’s students would enjoy exceptional school facilities. Kevin’s active involvement with the US Conference of Mayors has taken him around the world. He was one of the first 100 mayors to sign on to the Kyoto 2030 challenge, aimed at reducing our carbon footprint to halt climate change and one of only seven US mayors to meet with Japanese officials to discuss environmental concerns. He sits on a wide range of task forces and committees: Sustainability, Infrastructure and Community Redevelopment are all aimed at finding ways to spark economic development while remaining environmentally responsible, and Tourism, Arts & Cultural, and Sports focus on exploring other economic generators important to Florida’s economy. He is also a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

Wednesday, July 8, at 7 PM at Brogues on the Avenue, 621 Lake Avenue in Lake Worth.

The public is invited and admission is free. For information about Kevin Burns go to http://kevinburns4senate.com.
