THE GREEN PARTY IS NOT AN ALTERNATIVE; IT'S AN IMPERATIVE
"The Green Party is the Imperative"

On July 12th, the Green Party nominated former U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and Hip-Hop activist and journalist Rosa Clemente as presidential and vice presidential contenders on the Green Party ballot line. By doing so the Green Party nominated the first all women-of-color slate to run a national ticket in U.S. history. The campaign has less than two weeks to qualify for federal matching funds for this election cycle.

Speaking at the Green Party convention, Congresswoman McKinney said: "I'm looking forward to what we can build together. Our country has been hijacked and it will take all of us working together, going into places we've never been in order to spread the news that there is a political party that means what it says and does what it means".

To do that, we need your help. Go to www.runcynthiarun.org to get involved. During her acceptance speech at the Convention, Rosa Clemente said: "The Green Party is no longer the alternative, the Green Party is the imperative". You know it's true, help spread the word and tell a friend.

National Park(ing) Day In Lake Worth
Sept. 19th is National Park(ing) Day - a day for creating temporary parks in parking spaces to raise awareness of the importance of green space in urban environments.

The Community Redevelopment Agency is organizing this eco event from 2:00PM till 7:00PM.

Please go to the National Park(ing) Day website and read about how to organize and create a temporary park. There is a checklist to make the day easy, fun and safe.

http://www.tpl.org/tier2_kad.cfm?folder_id=3428

The parking spaces are conveniently located with in the downtown business district and will be assigned to each participant. As Sept 19th is also Evening on the Avenue you will also have the added bonus of lots of public looking and wanting to talk with you about your park.

Arrange to share the time with your association members as the park must be attended at all times.

You must leave your parking space clean at the end of the day.

There will be judging of the parks. Examples may be - Most Educational,

Funniest, Most Creative, Best Urban Plan, Best Use of Native Plants,

Best Xeriscape, Best Art Park.

As incentive for you to participate the City Tree Board will give each

Neighborhood Association about 25 Oak trees. They must be planted within your neighborhood and will be included in the City's goal of planting 10,000 trees by 2013, our 100 Year Anniversary.

They are about 5 feet tall and in very good condition.

But only if you sign up by Aug. 29th will you receive the trees.

The trees have to be picked up at a central location in Lake Worth.

We will let you know where and when the trees can be picked up, probably around Sept 19th.

You must provide your own vehicles to deliver the trees to your neighborhood.

Each association may have a mini tree give-away or how ever you want to distribute the trees fairly among your neighbors.

If you have friends who would like to create a park as an individual, each participant will receive one free Oak Tree for their yard.

Let Donna and me know as soon as possible that you will be participating or if you have questions.
